Toy Cars

If you look at this picture, you see two little toy cars in what appears to be a scale model setting (parking lot), just like the miniature settings used by Hollywood to cut costs. But believe it or not this is picture of a real parking lot with life-sized cars.

In the days of film, this method was known as "tilt shift" photography. The requirements were some expensive cameras and some tilt shift lenses. But luckily for us in the digital age, same results can be achieved via photo editing softwares.

This image is a demonstration of "fake tilt shift" effect, which is nothing but a regular high angled photo from above that was manipulated to give it a toy-like (scale model-like) look.

@eddie: I don't want to sound bossy here, but isn't it better if you removed the comment moderation. I know spams are real problems, but just try it for once and see if you did get spam, activate the moderation again.

Twelvebit from Victoria, United States

I like this technique. I think I spotted it in the movie "1408" used to make Samuel Jackson look like a miniature figure. It sure looked like this technique, anyway.

9 Oct 2007 3:00pm

@Twelvebit: I have seen that movie. Good one indeed. I need to watch it again to see what you are talking about. I usually watch movies once.

dude.grt one...alternatively you can use len babies to achieve this while shooting...instead of photoshop....tht way you will get more angles when shooting....

9 Oct 2007 10:10pm

@vasa: That's correct but you need to have SLR to use lens baby.

i really love visiting your site. It is very educational. After checking out your pictures, i couldn't help but think that they looked so familiar. Once i realized that they were taken in Funky Town (fort worth) i then thought "that makes sense!" You should take up teaching!

@Rags: I am just a beginner. Thanks for coming

Viewfinder from Bradenton, United States

Just "cool" is all I can say! I was absolutely fooled until reading your narrative.

Vahid from Bø, Norway

When I saw this shot, got totally confused! As you said, I thought is it real or what?!

The scene where John Cusak looks into the bar refrigerator and sees a miniature Samuel Jackson. Sam looks sort of like these cars and the rest of the frame has a similar appearance of being out of focus.
