46 Years Old Earth

Our Earth is roughly 4.6 billion years old. This is easy to say but hard to imagine. Now lets say every 100 million years is equal to one year, then we have our 46 years old Earth.

We have no information on his first 7 years and our data are sketchy on his teen years. But we know that in 42 plant life started to appear. Up until last year (45 years of age) there were no sign of dinosaurs or giant reptiles. It was 8 months ago that Earth gave birth to mammals. Beginning of last week was the dawn of higher apes, and by the end of the week Earth was experiencing Ice Age.

Modern human is only 4 hours old and in last hour has invented farming. Industrial revolution is a minute young and...

This disease (human) has rapidly multiplied and now cover the globe, while his existence has extincted 500 species of animals.

And now imagine what great misfortune has been brought on this 46 year old in this minute or so. Humanity has created rubbish out of this heaven.

Congratulations to Man/Woman (Irony).

@Hamid: This picture was so bad because of over casted sky, but HDR saved it.

A lovely shot Amir! Beautiful cloud cover! Interesting take on the earths age! A bit cynical are we?

@Mandy: Cynical indeed

Wolfgang Prigge from Canada

Great sky, and the photo reminds me of an impressionist painting. As for your text, I'm more of an optimist, I think we can put enough pressure on the few stalling politicians and globally pull this off....

10 Oct 2007 10:18am

@Wolfgang Prigge: You are right, put that would never happen.

Viewfinder from Bradenton, United States

Great irony. To be given stewardship over creation is not meant to give us power to abuse what God has made. Yet don't we all do it, consciously or unconsciously. No wonder heaven must weep. As should we all, but not helplessly. We can change our ways, our priorities, our demands. And if the economy goes to hell for a while, then so be it. What price is too great for an entire planet?

10 Oct 2007 12:27pm

@Viewfinder: Thanks for your words. It makes feel I am not the only one.

One of the interesting things about hdr is how it changes the "balance" of an image. I often find with landscapes like this one that the balance between the light and dark areas shifts from mostly top or bottom to being more evenly distributed across the image --making the photo more pleasing to look at.

10 Oct 2007 9:52pm

@Twelvebit: That's the beauty of it. Thanks for stopping by
