JoeB from Brampton, CanadaYou always see these Hummers in large cities, driven by one person. What do they need them for? 7 Nov 2007 2:34pm @JoeB: They drive them to make statement, "they are tough", "powerful", "rich" or simply "ignorant". amy from Rocky Mountain House, CanadaYep, and they're usually spotlessly clean so you know it's not like they're using it for what it was designed for. We see a lot of these out here, too. 7 Nov 2007 3:10pm @amy: unfortunately, Thanks for dropping by Reza from Montreal, CanadaWell, personally I like big SUV's like this but when you think green and you care about the earth you have to ignore them. I am waiting for environment-friendly monsters , LOL 7 Nov 2007 4:08pm Quintino from Joane, PortugalThat´s a huge, huge and extra large jeep... but I like it.... 7 Nov 2007 4:17pm Michael Rawluk from CanadaThe people who drive them around here think they own the road and expect you to move when they want your lane. 7 Nov 2007 6:05pm Rebecca from Leicester, United KingdomDear Amir, Elise saw this image and said “bus”!! :) (she knows the difference between a car and a bus, and often points out cars in her picture books or on the road). This definitely looked like a bus to her. To me, that says a lot about the crying waste of resources in running such a vehicle for the benefit of only a few! Sure, it looks absolutely gorgeous, shiny, impressive and appealing. You have captured this perfectly here, my dear friend. I wholeheartedly agree with you in your narrative. These are important choices we need to make in life, between what may be pleasing to our eyes and sense of security and comfort, and what we and our fellow human beings and our beloved planet really need. A deeply thought-provoking masterpiece once again, dear friend. 7 Nov 2007 10:16pm Richard_Irwin from Belper, United KingdomTheres the same craze over here. People buy giant 4 wheel drive vehicles to drop the kids at school 100 feet down the road in the morning. I once overtook around 100 stationary traffic jammed vehicles (on my little scooter), and not one of them had more than one occupent. The stupidity of it all is beyond me. Get a bicycle, walk, or if you must drive, get a small bike or scooter, or take the bus......thats my rant over for the evening. Good thought provoking stuff Amir 7 Nov 2007 10:30pm Rags from Plano, United StatesAmen amir. It is in TX that one is able to view many monstrosities of this sort. How sad. 7 Nov 2007 11:12pm Takiyah from Snellville, United StatesThere's a couple of these in my neighborhood. They may be fun looking, but I agree, no way near earth friendly. I hate to see how much gas costs to fill these things up! 7 Nov 2007 11:42pm Twelvebit from Victoria, United StatesBut they don't have to mortgage their houses Amir. The domestic use of this vehicle is partly driven by another subsidy for corporate America --what in the rest of the world we'd call "socialism." There is, or at least used to be, a special income tax treatment for vehicles in this weight class --a class, where if memory serves, the "Hummer" is the only member. Your business is much more profitable when you're "hooked up" with the government. 10 Nov 2007 4:08pm |
