Twelvebit from Victoria, United StatesNice composition. Hey, what's you view of the Iranian election? 19 Jun 2009 6:18pm @Twelvebit: I am a complex feeling. I called my dad and he was unshaken by all this. I voted for the opposition in Dallas, but don't want civil unrest. I knew Ahmadinejad would win. He has a strong base among rural and less-educated masses (akin to America's Bible-Belt). I feel strongly about this being a plot by those who don't wish us well and certainly no need to name the names here. I hope things calm down in days to come and we don't see another revolution as I was not found of the last one. Twelvebit from Victoria, United StatesWell, certainly the US has been sponsoring terrorism in Iran (but of course, if we do it, it isn't "terrorism"), and running special ops, and threatening extensive aerial bombardment now for several years. My guess would be that us, the Brits, and/or the Israelis are attempting to influence events in multiple ways. Certainly the hypocrisy is stunning --how we're all concerned now about the people we've been threatening to bomb, and how we're for democracy and elections in the Middle East, as long as: 1) we like the outcome, otherwise the elections aren't "legitimate" (Lebanon, Palestine); or 2) the "democracy" we're talking about isn't in one our our repressive client states like Egypt or Saudi Arabia or Jordan --in those places, there is not even a need for elections, much less legitimate ones. 22 Jun 2009 10:41pm |
